Frequently Asked Questions

Listed below are a small number of frequently asked questions a number of customers have put to us:

Q. I am thinking about having replacement windows fitted in my new home and I cannot decide whether to have toughened glass or laminated glass, can you advise?

A. Both types of glass are considered as 'safety' glass, if you are looking for strength and security then laminated glass should be your choice, however, this can be very costly and because it is a thicker glass is heavier and can therefore have greater wear and tear on your fittings. Toughened glass is much harder to break as expected, but in the event of a fire or any other kind of emergency can cause difficulty when trying to exit or enter a building. We would recommend using shatter glass as it is quite difficult to break , but when it does, it breaks into smaller pieces and reduces the chance of being injured by large pieces of glass.

Q. We are looking to improve our home so that we can get a quick sale on the market, can you recommend a window and door system that will look great but will not cost us a bomb?

A. At Ashmore Glass & Mirrors we always supply our customers with a whole range of different window and door systems to choose from. We would visit you first to see your property and advise you on the best system to meet your budget. We are great believers in offering value for money and great choice.

Q. What are the advantages having uPVC windows and doors?

A. A uPVC window and door installation offer good frame insulation, low maintenance, it is a cost effective material to use and is also available in a range of different colours, including wood grain.
